Diploma in Dental Technology Course Outline
Course Duration: 1 Year (Full-time) or 2 Years (Part-time)
Mode: Classroom, Practical Lab Sessions, and Online Learning
Eligibility: High school diploma or equivalent
Certification: Diploma Certificate in Dental Technology (Skill Development Program by Prakash Manchanda & Dr. Hemraj Memorial Trust)
Course Objectives
- Equip students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to manufacture dental appliances.
- Train students in the use of dental materials, equipment, and technology in laboratory settings.
- Provide hands-on experience in fabricating prosthetics, orthodontic appliances, and other dental restorative devices.
- Prepare students for real-world dental lab environments and job placements in dental laboratories or clinics.

1. Introduction to Dental Technology

2. Dental Anatomy & Physiology
Course Content:
- Study of oral and dental structures.

3. Dental Materials Science
Course Content:
- Properties of materials used in dental labs (metals, ceramics, polymers).
- Selection of appropriate materials for different dental appliances.
- Handling of dental materials.
4. Prosthodontics (Removable Prostheses)
Course Content:
- Fabrication of complete and partial dentures.
- Understanding different denture materials.
- Designing and constructing removable dental prostheses.
5. Fixed Prosthodontics (Crown & Bridgework)
Course Content:
- Fabrication of crowns, bridges, and veneers.
- Procedures for creating fixed dental restorations.
- Introduction to CAD/CAM technologies in fixed prosthodontics.
6. Orthodontics (Orthodontic Appliances)
Course Content:
- Construction of orthodontic appliances like braces and retainers.

7. Digital Dental Technology
Course Content:
- Introduction to digital technologies in dentistry.

8. Infection Control & Safety in Dental Labs
Course Content:
- Maintaining a sterile environment in the dental lab.

9. Dental Implant Technology
Course Content:

- Design and fabrication of implant-supported prostheses.

10. Laboratory Management & Ethics

- Inventory management and budgeting for a dental lab.
Practical Sessions & Laboratory Work
Students will engage in hands-on laboratory work throughout the course, which will include:
- Fabricating complete dentures, crowns, bridges, and orthodontic appliances.
- 3D modeling of dental prostheses using CAD/CAM technology.
- Exposure to digital workflows and 3D printing technologies.
- Supervised training under experienced dental technicians.
Assessments
- Theoretical Exams: Assessing dental materials, anatomy, and lab procedures knowledge.
- Practical Assessments: Evaluating students’ ability to fabricate various dental appliances.
- Project Work: Students will be required to complete a capstone project, showcasing their skills in constructing a complex dental restoration.
- Internship/Apprenticeship: Students will be required to complete a practical internship in a dental laboratory, gaining real-world experience.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a Diploma Certificate in Dental Technology, which is not recognized by the Dental Council of India (DCI) but is equivalent under the Skill Development Program run by Prakash Manchanda & Dr. Hemraj Memorial Trust. This certificate is aimed at providing practical skills and knowledge for entry-level roles in the dental industry.
